Versuchen Sie, die Kiste nicht vollständig zu verdunkeln. * Wenn die Kiste recht groß ist, schneiden Sie einen Teil davon ab, während der Welpe jung ist. Dadurch bleibt er beschäftigt, wenn er wach ist. Der Welpe braucht außerdem weiches Bettzeug zum Schlafen (z. B. einen Tierarzt). Bett oder Ähnliches und Wasser zum Trinken. Lassen Sie die Tür zu diesem Zeitpunkt offen, damit der Hund nicht versehentlich angeschnallt wird und dadurch nicht übermäßig gestresst wird, wenn er eingesperrt wird. * Bald sollte der Hund die Box gerne und freiwillig nutzen. Wenn Sie dieses Stadium erreicht haben, warten Sie, bis er zum Schlafen geht, und schließen Sie dann die Tür. Bleiben Sie im Zimmer und lassen Sie ihn raus, wenn er aufwacht. Erhöhen Sie die Zeitspanne, in der Sie außer Sichtweite sind, wieder schrittweise, bis Sie Ihren Hund in seine Box legen können, wenn Sie einkaufen gehen. * Ihr Hund sollte niemals mit einem Halsband in einer Box gelassen werden, da dieser sich im Netz/Käfig verfangen kann und ein in Panik geratener Welpe sich ernsthaft verletzen könnte. * Denken Sie daran, die Box immer zu einem positiven Erlebnis zu machen und sie niemals als Disziplin zu nutzen. So wird der Hund seinen „sicheren“ Platz als seinen eigenen genießen, wenn er Zeit für sich selbst braucht.

The scheme will be administered on behalf of the GSDL by the British Regional Group. This will follow the rules of the SV Körung system and will be recognised internationally for breeding (show) and performance events. What is a Körung? The SV controls breeding of German Shepherds in Germany and the Körung system is the way in which each dog is approved as suitable for breeding. They must achieve certain minimum standards in health tests, confirmation, stamina and working tests in order to be eligible to enter a Körung examination. During the examination, they will undergo a courage and protection test and a gunshot test. If they pass both of these, the assessor (Körmeister) will asses their confirmation, including measuring height, depth, circumference of the chest and weight and will produce a detailed description of the dog and may make recommendations for breeding. There are also minimum requirements fo dentition and males must have both testicles. The Körmeister may then issue a Körung which lasts for two years. After the two years, the dog is submitted again for a Körung test and, if it passes, gains Körung for lifetime (Lebenzeit). A dog may be bred from once without Körung and the puppies will be issued with a registration which indicates one or both parents do not have Körung. To breed a second time the dog must have a Körung and the puppies will be issued with full registration (pink papers). In practice it is rare for breeders to breed from dogs without Körung. What is a National Körung Scheme? Outside of Germany, WUSV member clubs are able to set up their own Körung schemes. They can appoint Körmeister and award Körung qualifications to dogs which meet the criteria that they set. The awards required to be eligible for the Körung i.e. show grade, AD test (stamina) and IGP qualification, which can be issued by judges approved by the WUSV member club. If the rules set by the WUSV member club, mirror those of the SV, the Körung will be recognised for all events which require it such as shows and the Universal Sieger competition. It is possible to gain a VA grading with a National Körung in any country including Germany. The only restriction in reality is that a dog is not eligible to be entered on the German (SV) stud book with a National Körung, for this all qualifications must be achieved physically in Germany. What are the rules for the National Körung System? In order for the Körung to be recognised internationally, it must follow the rules for the SV Körung scheme. Therefor in order to enter a Korung , all dogs must have the following: SV DNA SV A Stamp hips and elbows Completion of an SV character assessment A show grade of at least 'Good' under a GSDL approved judge A working qualification of at least IGP1. alternatively a Breed Disposition Test (commonly known as ZAP) pass. An AD pass (20km cycle ride test) During the Körung event, the dog must pass a courage and protection test (the same as you will see at Sieger shows) and a gunshot test. Finally the Körmeister will record the physical confirmation aspects of the dog and decide whether the dog merits a Körung pass - this is an endorsement that the dog has met all of the internationally recognised criteria for breeding. Will the National Körung Scheme be used to restrict breeding in the UK? Registration of puppies in the UK is currently governed by the Kennel Club and there is no credible alternative to this in terms of public recognition and resourses to administer it. The GSD League of GB has no plans to set up an alternative registration scheme. The National Körung will therefore, be a recognition of UK dogs which have attained a qualification recognised internationally as a dog suitable to be bred from. The GSD League of GB will keep a register of such qualified dogs available for public inspection. Will all dogs shown at Regional Events in the UK require a National Körung There is no intention to remove the Adult class from the UK Regional shows as it is recognised that the UK does not have the infra structure to facilitate all dogs attaining IGP even if they are capable of it. Entry into the Adult Classes will not require a National Körung. The intention is to make a Körung qualification more accessible to UK breeders and owners because they can achieve the qualification criteria under the GSDL approved judges and the Körung under GSDL approved Körmester. This reduces cost for the clubs holding qualifying events and ultimately breeders and owners. This will allow more breeder/owners to aim for and achieve entry into the working class at Regional Events and the British Sieger. Who will be the GSDL approved Körmeisters? The GSD rules for the scheme specify that GSDL approved Körmeisters must hold the status of GSDL approved SV Special International breed judge and must have in depth experience of the courage and protection test. Currently the GSDL approved Körmeisters are Heather Macdonald and Shirley Hutchinson. When will the National Körung Scheme begin? The scheme will start in 2025 with the intention of covering the whole of the UK and subsequent information will be published on this, the GSDL Website and Social Media pages. Kauf eines GSD-Welpen The first project is to research the breed thoroughly. Is this breed right for you and your way of life. Speak to owners, trainers and breeders. You need to understand the costs, vet fees, food, training and equipment such as indoor crates, collars, leads and bedding. Do you have the time to commit to a a German Shepherd. It`s not just the training and exercise involved but the German Shepherd is a very sociable dog and loves nothing more than time to spend time with their family. If he will be home alone for hours and hours every day this could cause the dog some anxiety and could become destructive. The German Shepherd is a double coated breed and this does need grooming and they shed hair. Finding a breeder and litter is next. Ensure you have a list of questions ready when contacting breeders. Avoid text messages and try to actually speak to the breeder. Some may prefer an e-mail in the first instance as they may be holding waiting lists. Be prepared to answer questions from the breeder, a responsible breeder will what to know about you, your family, work life and so on, do not get offended, it is a big decision for both parties. Vital points to look when looking for a litter. Learn to decipher adverts and buzz words. The price does not always reflect the experience of the breeder and the quality of the breeding. Straight backs are not linked to health and longevity. If the colour is "rare" it is probably not a recognised GSD colour and as such is not worth more money. Both parents are Kennel Club registered or registered in their country of birth. Some dogs are imported and some make take their females abroad to use certain bloodlines. You also want to ensure that the litter will be Kennel Club registered. Pleases note to hear that Kennel Club registration does NOT mean the parents are health tested. Only buy puppies from health tested parents. Ideally both hips and elbows. Ideally both hips and elbows. There are no excuses and if the breeder cannot supply the documentation the health tests can be verified on the kennel club health test finder website. There is no limit set on health tests but the GSD League recommend the hips are below 20 (maximum of 12 on one side) and the elbows are a maximum of 1. There are other tests available such as PD (Pituitary Dwarfism), DM or CDRM (Degenerative Myelopathy, or Chronic Degenerative Radiculomyelopathy) The current test for DM applies only to the EXON 2 gene and is no guarantee your dog will not develop DM at a later date. Haemophilia test is available and is currently required for a male to pass a UK breed survey. A UK version of DNA testing is also available for proof of parentage. Many and increasingly so, with international recognition of the scheme required for breeding and competition, have their dogs health tested under the SV Scheme, Parents should be Normal, fast normal or noch zugelassen on both hips and elbows . DNA test is also required . NB Although the SV scheme is used and recognised worldwide the Kennel Club does not acknowledge and record these requirements and do not appear on Kennel Club pedigrees. DNA is for proof of parentage. Absolutely is a must is to see the mother with her puppies (not many breeders own the stud dogs so you wont always be able to meet the father). Some females are sometimes very protective when they have puppies but should never be aggressive. Watch her behaviour, is she shying away, avoiding the puppies, avoiding the breeder. Is she in good physical condition (even feeding a large litter , if she is cared for properly and healthy she will have good body and coat condition). Some breeders may not allow visitors to the home so use technology where you can. You need to be assured the person owns the mother and if they will not show you live videos of her and the puppies then walk away. Next is viewing the litter. A responsible breeder will want to meet you and the whole family that will be caring for the puppy. If the breeder has other dogs meet them too. Look how confident the dogs are and their general condition. This will give you an insight as to the breeders care and experience but also as to the size your puppy will grow to. Depending on the age of the litter when you first view them, will dictate how interactive you can be with them but you must always be guided by the breeder. Again make sure you see the mother with the puppies, there is no excuses not to. Does she interact wit them, are they healthy, playful (puppies do sleep a lot), there shouldn`t be any odours and there skin should be clean. The most common practice is to leave a deposit once you have viewed them and both you and the breeder are happy. Make sure you receive a receipt for this. GSD`s are advertised in various places and can differ much in price. An expensive puppy is no guarantee of quality, homework should be done, minimum criteria must be good hips and elbows as described above. Puppy identification via microchipping is now law and puppies must have this form of ID before they are sold. Tattooing is also a form of identification but this is now done together with microchipping. If there is anything you are unsure about, then you must walk away. Do not accept any excuses for lack of health tests or not being able to see the mother with the puppies. No matter how much or how little experience you have with owning a German Shepherd, it is vital to chose a breeder that will give you ongoing support in the future. Paperwork and puppy pack should be supplied with your puppy. Many breeders differ greatly in what is supplied but Kennel Club registration and microchipping details are a must, Worming details, the puppy should have been wormed as a matter of course and information given as to any possible future treatment. Dog food should be supplied with your puppy, again this will help you determine a good breeder, a high quality should have been fed to your puppy to give it the best start in life. Four weeks free insurance is often given by good breeders. KENNEL CLUB REGISTRATION - the kennel club holds the history of all breeds of dogs registered with it. BEWARE of puppies advertised as simply REGISTERED. This may mean they are registered with another organisation and parentage may be dubious with little or no history of the ancestors and health tests. Buying a puppy needs to be a positive and joyful experience so ensure you choose your breeder carefully. Now the fun begins!!!

As holding and hugging are not natural behaviours for dogs you will need to teach your puppy to happily accept all that this handling is just part of normal every day life. This is best achieved while he is an impressionable young puppy and it really is worthwhile investing a lot of time to establish this. It is extremely important that your puppy becomes relaxed and comfortable with being touched by you and even unfamiliar people. There will be times when you veterinary surgeon may have to physically examine your pup or he will need to undergo a procedure at the vets. Your vet will greatly appreciate a dog that can be safely handled and the situation will be far less stressful for the dog if he is not anxious about being handled. Start by gently touching your puppy all over when he is calm, if you do this as you stroke him. he will soon learn to trust and enjoy human touch. Practice lots of association of the puppy`s happy compliance at being handled paired with food rewards. When the puppy is happy with general touching, gradually increase the time spent on examining each part of the body. Introduce slight restraint of the puppy with a short very gentle hug as you give him a food treat; teach him that this is not a threatening gesture. Quietly speak to him as you reach for his collar touch it, give him a treat, do this several times, when he is ok with this reach for his collar hold it and give it a slight tug as you give him a treat. Go gently to start with, gradually teach the pup not to be intimidated by someone reaching towards his head and neck. As dogs use their mouth and teethlike we use our hands, they can be prone to injury, also dental disease is a common problem as the dog gets older. It is really important to be able to examine the pups mouth and teeth. To begin, gently place one hand under the pups lower jaw with your fingers very gently curled around and just touching the muzzle.. With the other hand stroke the pups head backwards from the nose and gently rest your hand on the pups head for a few moments as you quietly praise his cooperation, then give him a treat. Do this several times for a few days before actually looking at his teeth or opening his mouth. When the puppy becomes familiar with this and calmly accepts having his face handled this way, place one hand under the lower jaw and with the other hand without covering his nostrils or eyes (this would make him panic) gently raise his lips, occasionally briefly opening his mouth. Great care must be taken not to squeeze or hurt the pups mouth at any stage. Dogs can often become anxious about having their paws handled and as most dogs will need their nails clipped at some time, feet handling exercises will accustom the puppy to having a nail trim without aggression or undue anxiety. Pick up the pups paw and support it in your hand, with your index finger and thumb gently feel each toe and touch each nail. Give a big treat to the puppy for being good. Start with just one paw examination at the first session, then gradually progress to include all the paws in different sessions. Be patient and go slowly if necessary and be generous with rewards. Th aim is to help the puppy to tolerate and calmly accept having this touch sensitive area handled. Apart from nail clipping being able to examine your pups paw will come in useful if something gets stuck in his pad, or just to check they are in good condition. Getting the puppy used to having ears and eyes checked should be done in the same careful manner as medication may need to be administered on e day and it is of course important to spot any early signs of problems. Practice daily home health checks before having a good game with the puppy. Stroke the pup from its head down to the tail and check the pups behind which should be clean with no redness or swelling around the anus or matted hair. Run your hands through the pup`s fur to check for any unusual lumps or bumps or things stuck in the fur. Check his tummy skin is clear with no spots or scabs. Run your hand down the pup`s legs, pick up a foot and examine the pads. It is always handy that you can tell your vet that cut/lump/rash wasn`t there yesterday. Dogs don`t always know when something is wrong and can be very good at hiding ill health. Handling, grooming and regular health checks spot any potential problems early which may require a veterinary check up before they have a chance to develop into a more serious issue. As well as handling the puppy watch how he walks, runs, responds when you touch him. Get to know what is normal for your puppy and you will then notice even slight changes in behaviour or movement that indicates he may have a problem developing. As you get your puppy used to being handled, recognise the important signs of a healthy puppy. He should be alert but have a calm demeanour, the skin should be supple, clean with no parasites or dandruff. There should be no discharge from the nose, eyes should be bright and clear, the ears should be clean with no odour. Th teeth should be clean the gums pink (the puppy may have red and swollen gums during teething) . Th nails should be evenly worn not overgrown or broken. Th puppy should move freely with no sign of a limp or stiffness. The abdomen should not be tender or swollen. During the handling exercises if the puppy starts fussing about, remain calm and neutral slow down and proceed more carefully. Don`t let it turn into a game or battle. Take your time to get the puppy to accept being handled with gentle reassurance from you for good behaviour. Never handle the puppy roughly. When your puppy is happy to be handled by you ask other family members or friends to handle the puppy under your supervision, with lots of rewards for the puppy good behaviour. Handling is an extremely important part of the socialisation process but sometimes it is overlooked until it is too late and the dog becomes reactive and unable to be physically examined so any visit to the vet is a traumatic experience for the dog and you! With carefully planned regular handling sessions with your puppy, not only will you spot early any signs of any health problems you will be developing good control and relieving anxiety about being touched or restrained building a good relationship between you and your puppy. The GSDL represents one of 85 countries with affiliated membership of the World Union of German Shepherd Dog Clubs (WUSV).
